The Springfield’City Council on Tuesday authorized a contract for annual payments to support economic development planning by the Springfield Project.
The ordinance initially was slated to provide $50,000 annually, but a compromise amendment to the ordinance granted an additional $75,000 through the state’s crime prevention cannabis fund.
Ward 2 Alderman Shawn Gregory stressed the importance of using the opportunity to focus on creating work opportunities for disadvantaged youth.
To comply with the state’s funding requirements, the Springfield Project will prioritize development of an entrepreneurial outdoor food court to support youth employment efforts.
