An economic development package for downtown Springfield passed the Senate on Sunday night but was not called for a vote in the House.
The bill advanced by State Senator Doris Turner would create the Capital Area Tourism Authority based around expansion of the Bank of Springfield Center and a new downtown hotel.
The measure would expand the medical district south to South Grand Avenue and provide authority to build educational, research and residential facilities.
The bill advanced to the House for concurrence but was not called for a vote before the House adjourned before 4:30 a.m.
