Illinois election officials insist they are complying with all federal requirements to keep the state’s voter registration rolls accurate and up to date.
Capitol News Illinois reports the board responded this week to an earlier letter from the U.S. Department of Justice threatening to prosecute election officials in any state that failed to keep ineligible voters off their registration rolls.
The Trump administration is engaged in several efforts to exert more federal control over elections.
The letter from the Illinois elections board says there are no grounds for any such prosecution in the state.
