The Sangamon County Board rejected a motion Tuesday night to place a referendum on an upcoming ballot to provide the power to recall elected officials.
Board member Sam Cahnman proposed the measure along with board members Tony DelGiorno, Reggie Guyton, Kevin McGuire and Gina Latham.Board member Sheila Feipel also voted for the proposal.
A petition drive to place the issue on the ballot directly did not receive enough signatures.
The board rejected an amendment by Cahnman to make the the referendum advisory.
Board members voted 19-6 against the proposal.
