Storms quickly developed in central Illinois early Sunday afternoon as high winds knocked down trees and power lines throughout the Springfield area.
City Water, Light and Power reported more than 7,300 customers were without power shortly after the storms passed.
The utility reported the hardest hit areas were between South Grand and Stanford avenues, the GlenAire and Laketown areas and Hazel Dell Lane.
Crews restored power to most areas with about 700 still without electricity before sunrise in southeast and west Springfield.
