University of Illinois Springfield reports that this fall’s freshman class is the second largest in school history.
UIS enrolled 353 freshmen this fall, up about 13 percent from fall 2025 and second to the 373 enrolled in the fall of 2019.
Undergraduate enrollment at UIS increased by 22 students from last fall for a total of 2,359.
Overall enrollment at UIS is 4,008, down from 4,364 last fall. The university attributed the decline mostly to challenges in international student recruitment and enrollment.
The University of Illinois System reported a record fall enrollment of more than 102,000 with undergraduate enrollment increasing by 3.4 percent. The system said growth was driven primarily by new in-state undergraduates.
