Instacart has put out a list of the most popular Halloween candies in America, based on actual sales throughout October of last year. Here are the Top 10:
1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
2. Peanut M&M’s
3. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate
4. Regular M&M’s
5. Snickers
6. Kit Kat
7. Sour Patch Kids

Almost every state bought more Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups than ANYTHING else last October. (Here’s the map.)
There were 10 exceptions. NINE of them bought more Peanut M&M’s than anything else: Texas . . . Hawaii . . . Montana . . . Idaho . . . Utah . . . South Dakota . . . Nebraska . . . Iowa . . . and Minnesota.
The last remaining state, Rhode Island, has Sour Patch Kids as the #1.
There’s also a map of every state’s “TYPE.” The one candy they go crazy for . . . and buy way more of than everyone else in the country.
For example, Montana is buying HI-CHEW at +616% above the national average. It’s also popular in Washington state, Oregon, and Alaska.
And Louisiana is seriously into Tootsie Pops (+141%). They’re also big in Michigan, Alabama, South Carolina, and Delaware.
Here are some other state’s favorites, relative to the rest of the country:
Sour Patch Kids: New York, Florida, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, and Rhode Island.
