Hoobastank is experiencing a resurgence in popularity with their 2004 single, “The Reason,” thanks to a viral TikTok #NotAPerfectPerson challenge where users began posting about certain life choices which they regretted. They were all set to the song’s opening line, “I’m not a perfect person.” Lead singer Doug Robb got in on the challenge making fun of his own band writing “Realizing 20 years later that you named your band Hoobastank” as he lip syncs the opening line while standing in front of a wall of gold and platinum albums.

Robb used to be bothered that “The Reason” was the song the band's career seemed to hang on, but the pandemic has given him a different view. He told Stereogum, “This wasn’t the exact career path I think any of us had planned. That being said, so much of our livelihood now, or for the past 10 years, is based on radio and that song and a handful of other songs that we got so much success for. So many bands have had to shut it down this last year, they can’t tour, their livelihood is taken away. And, for us, we’ve been fortunate. The silver lining came late, but it came.”

Hoobastank's latest album, Push Pull, was released in 2018.
