A nationally recognized physician in emergency medicine has been selected as the next provost and dean of SIU School of Medicine. Dr. Ian Martin will also serve as CEO of the school's faculty practice

The bill would loosen one of the requirements for paying in-state tuition by making it available to students who attended Illinois high schools for at least three years, even if they established residency outside the state before enrolling.

Instead, they'll have the option of taking a foreign language or an approved career and technical education course.

The Summer Book Club requires students to read eight books of their choice during the summer break, record the names of the books on a form, and return the form to Turner's Springfield, Decatur or Capitol office by Aug. 14.

Classes will begin in the new school in August. The former Owen Marsh Elementary School will be demolished after the current term ends.

The Illinois State Board of Education says there were delays in approving grant awards this year, in part because lawmakers approved more funding than the agency requested.

According to a statement the investment will also help meet the growing need for licensed commercial drivers, support local economic development, and provide stable career opportunities for Illinoisans.
