More films this week announcing their delay, which is an ongoing trend in the industry.
Just days after the latest James Bond flick ‘No Time to Die’ was postponed from November to April several other films are pushing back their release.
DUNE, which was expected to be a huge box office blockbuster, was yanked from this year’s holiday schedule. We will now see that come out October 1, 2021.
DC’s THE BATMAN with Robert Pattinson was supposed to come out next year. Nope! Thanks to Covid delays in production, we won’t see that flick until 2022. (It should be noted that WONDER WOMAN 1984 is still on course for a December release.)
Disney & Marvel are also delaying a few films. BLACK WIDOW and Steven Spielberg’s remake of the musical WEST SIDE STORY are pushed back to next year.
With so few major releases on the schedule for the remainder of the year, Regal Cinemas decided to close their theaters this week until further notice. Cinemark & AMC say they will continue on for the time being.
Last weekend Tenet was #1 in theaters with the #2 spot going to 1993’s Hocus Pocus. Yep a 1993 film was #2, that’s how slow things are in the new release area for movie theaters.
