Everybody thought Mick Jagger was joking when he announced that he was the Academy’s second choice to present Best Original Song at the 2025 Oscars ceremony on Sunday night (March 2), only after Bob Dylan turned down their initial offer. But according to a story from The Hollywood Reporter, the notoriously reclusive Dylan actually was invited to present and perform at the Academy Awards, which recognized the biopic on the legendary singer-songwriter, A Complete Unknown, with eight Oscar nominations. During his opening monologue, host Conan O’Brien praised Timothée Chalamet for his spot-on portrayal of Dylan, which earned him a Best Actor nod. “Bob Dylan wanted to be here tonight… but not that badly,” O’Brien joked. Perhaps Dylan was aware of the air of disappointment “Blowin’ in the Wind” when he turned down his invite, as A Complete Unknown lost out in all eight categories it was nominated in, and everyone associated with the film went home empty handed after the ceremony.
