A police standoff in Jacksonville has led to the closing of Jacksonville Middle School on Friday.
Around 6:40am Friday morning authorities were in the midst of a standoff with a suspect in the area of Park and Smithland Streets near the Middle School.
Police then advised school officials to close the school for the day out of an abundance of caution.
Illinois State Police were called in to assist.
The suspect appears to be armed, but alone so it is not a hostage situation. Jascksonville High School and Washington Elementary held classes as normal.
