A Cook County judge will rule next month on a petition to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate — and possibly charge — alleged abuses by federal immigration agents.
Capitol News Illinois reports the judge heard lengthy arguments on Friday from petitioners who insist a special prosecutor is necessary to respond to allegations of wrongdoing by agents during “Operation Midway Blitz” last fall.
But Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke maintains she is limited in what her office can do. The judge is set to rule on May 11.
