Representatives from HSHS St. John’s Hospital and Springfield Memorial Hospital planted a tree on Tuesday to remember five youths who died when a vehicle crashed through a Chatham after-school center one year ago.
The tree was planted at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital on the first anniversary of the crash in remembrance of the victims, Kathryn Corley, 7; Alma Buhnerkempe, 7; Bradley Lund, 8; Ainsley Johnson, 8; and Rylee Britton, 18.
Lund was hospitalized for several weeks before passing.
Several other children were injured. HSHS St. John’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital staff cared for the victims as Springfield Memorial Hospital staff sent caregivers, food and supplies.
