The Sangamon County Board is expected to vote this evening on the nominees for the newly created Sangamon County Mental Health Board.
Voters in March approved a half-percent sales tax to generate more than 14 million dollars annually for mental health programs to be overseen by the mental health board.
Nominees announced by the county on Monday include Jennifer Douglas, re-entry supervisor for the Illinois Department of Corrections; retired Memorial Behavioral Health President Janice Gambach; retired judge Steve Nardulli; psychiatric clinician Margaret Seymour; former CEO of McFarland Mental Health Center and former Commissioner of Mental Health for the state Leigh Steiner; clinical psychologist and president of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School Dr. William Moredock; and attorney and Massey Commission member Brian Wojcicki.
The mental health board is allowed to expand to nine members with two additional nominees including Illinois Department of Public Health corrections coordinator and former NAACP and Springfield Boys and Girls Club board member Michael Gaines; and David Racine, former executive director for the Center for State Policy and Leadership at University of Illinois Springfield.
