Firefighters and first responders from throughout the state on Tuesday recognized colleagues who went above and beyond their call of duty.
The 33rd annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial and Medal of Honor Ceremony near the capitol complex recognized Chicago Fire Captain David Meyer, who died in the line of duty last year.
Several honors were presented to the Springfield Fire Department. Firefighter Austin Muensch received one of the 13 Firefighter Excellence Awards, a Springfield unit received one of six unit citations, and Springfield Fire Captain Joshua Mifflin received a Certificate of Recognition.
