The Logan County zoning committee has recommended a 90-day moratorium on data center construction.
Hut 8 has proposed construction of a data center on 50 acres in southeast Logan County near Latham. Company representatives and residents discussed the impact of the center during a two-hour special zoning committee meeting on Wednesday.
Hut 8 projected the center would provide around 1,500 construction jobs, 200 permanent jobs and up to 65 million dollars in property tax revenue annually.
Residents and committee members concerned about strain on the power grid and other negative impacts pushed for the moratorium to obtain more information.
A Hut 8 representative said a moratorium could kill the project because their agreement with Ameren would expire.
The recommendation for the moratorium now goes to the Logan County Board, which meets in regular session tonight.
