The Morning Routine with Rocki and Lacey recently welcomed special guest Jeff Eddy from the Salvation Army for an engaging and insightful conversation. Jeff shared the story of how he first became connected with the organization, giving listeners a deeper look into both his personal journey and his passion for service. Originally from Urbana, Jeff proudly considers central Illinois his home. During the interview, he reflected on his younger years and how, in high school, he began exploring music by playing the clarinet. While that particular instrument didn’t quite capture his interest, it ultimately led him to discover a love for brass instruments. That discovery opened the door to the Salvation Army Brass Band, where he not only developed his musical skills but also found a strong sense of community and belonging.
Through his involvement with the band, Jeff had the opportunity to travel and connect with others who shared his passion, which made a lasting impact on him. Inspired by those experiences and the mission behind the organization, he eventually decided to become an officer with the Salvation Army. His career took him to Michigan for a period of time before bringing him back to Illinois. Over the years, he moved between the two states, but for the past eight years, he has been settled back in Illinois, continuing his work and commitment to the community he calls home.
Jeff also highlighted several upcoming events and initiatives the Salvation Army is involved in this summer. One of their ongoing efforts includes a weekly Wednesday night food distribution, which helps provide essential support to local families. The Salvation Army Brass Band is also preparing for a special performance of the national anthem at the first baseball game of the season at Robin Roberts Stadium next week—a moment they are especially excited about. In addition, they are looking forward to hosting a senior dinner scheduled for June 18th, creating an opportunity for fellowship and connection within the community.
Beyond events, Jeff shared exciting news about a new grant the Salvation Army has received, which will support the development of an e-sports program. This initiative will include the creation of a technology lab, offering new opportunities for engagement, especially among younger individuals interested in gaming and digital skills. Finally, Jeff spoke about his evolving role within the organization. He will soon transition into a position focused on emergency disaster relief throughout Illinois, where he will help coordinate assistance during tornadoes, severe weather, and other emergency situations across central Illinois—continuing the Salvation Army’s mission to serve those in need during critical times.
