Meet Our Latest Friend
The Morning Routine with Rocki and Lacey was joined by the ever inspiring Josh Sabo from Heartland Housed. Josh shared with us how he ended up in the Springfield area in 2004, as he was a member of the seminary and ended up at Central Baptist Church here in Springfield and found himself in a role that revolved around helping the people of downtown Springfield, including the unhoused population. Around 2019, the effort to create the center of care led him to continuum of care with Heartland Housed.
If you are unaware of their initiative, Heartland HOUSED is dedicated to transforming the landscape of homelessness in Springfield and Sangamon County, IL. As the backbone organization of the Heartland Continuum of Care, they develop strategic initiatives, support collaborative implementation efforts, and foster partnerships aimed at functionally ending homelessness.
We also spoke about their street outreach team that works to know all the people who are unsheltered in our community by name and help connect them to any of the resources they are looking for and are eligible for. Josh also shared with us about the resources available through their new app and by calling the Heartland Housing Helpline at 217-803-5235 (Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM) for assistance.
You can always find more at at their website, Heartland Housed.
