The Morning Routine with Rocki and Lacey welcomed Springfield Tourism Director Scott Dahl to the show, and as always, he brought the enthusiasm and energy that make Springfield such a special place to visit and call home, and the same excitement that we hope to represent here at the Morning Routine.
Scott joined us to talk about some of the exciting events and developments happening throughout the community. The conversation covered everything from the recent Matchbox Twenty concert and the growing excitement surrounding women’s professional baseball to the many attractions and events helping drive tourism across Central Illinois. He also shared his excitement about the Bailey Zimmerman concert at the Illinois State Fair and the upcoming naturalization ceremony, both of which showcase the vibrancy and diversity of our community.
Looking ahead, one of Springfield’s most anticipated events is right around the corner. The Springfield Mile returns after Labor Day, bringing one of the greatest spectacles in motorsports racing to the Illinois State Fairgrounds. Fans can witness top riders reaching speeds of more than 140 mph on one of the most historic tracks in America. Originally constructed in the late 19th century and reconstructed in 1927, the Springfield Mile has hosted competitive racing since 1910, making it one of the oldest speedways in the United States. Don’t miss the thrilling doubleheader action Labor Day weekend.
And if that wasn’t enough, another major community favorite is on the horizon. The International Route 66 Mother Road Festival will celebrate its 25th year as it rolls into historic downtown Springfield September 25-27. The festival will feature classic cars, live music, family fun, and plenty of nostalgia. The celebration is especially meaningful as 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of Route 66.
Special guests are scheduled to join the festivities, including Chris Kattan, best known for his years on Saturday Night Live. On Saturday, legendary custom car designer and builder Dave Kindig, star of MotorTrend and Velocity television shows, will appear at the event. Fans can also meet Dennis Gage, the iconic host of My Classic Car, known to many as “Mr. Mustache.”
Registration is now open, and VIP parking is available while spots last.
Thanks again to Scott Dahl for stopping by and sharing his passion for Springfield and all the exciting events that continue to make our community a destination worth celebrating.
