An insurance rating firm has again given its highest rating to the Springfield Fire Department.
Ratings provided by the Insurance Services Office help to determine insurance premiums for both the city’s fire service and the community. The agency said only 1 percent of the 47,000 fire protection areas in the country receive the Class 1 rating.
Springfield Fire Chief Nick Zummo credited the city council’s investment in the department for the rating.
Zummo also noted that the new construction on Stations 8 and 13 helped meet the city’s emergency response time goal of four minutes, which improved the department’s overall score.
