A former alderwoman says she will run for mayor of Springfield.
Gail Simpson did not release a formal announcement but told a small group of supporters on Monday in a video posted on Facebook that she plans to challenge incumbent Mayor Misty Buscher in next spring’s election.
Simpson served two terms on the city council from 2007 to 2015. She ran for mayor instead of seeking a third term as alderwoman in 2015 but lost to Jim Langfelder.
She lost in a drawing to break a tie in voting for her former Ward 2 council seat to Shawn Gregory in 2019.
