The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Monday that bridge painting on Farmingdale Road near Springfield was beginning that very day, Monday, May 19.
The department noted that lane closures on Interstate 72 will be necessary to perform the repairs; message boards, signs, and temporary barrier walls are set to be used to direct traffic.
Benefits from this project include preserving the lifespan of the bridge; the project is expected to be completed in early August.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
