The Springfield School District 186 board on Monday voted 5-2 to dismiss Marques Warfield as Springfield High School head boys basketball coach.
Board members Micah Miller and Erica Austin voted against the dismissal. Warfield was 25-33 in two seasons as the Senators’ head coach with an 18-13 record last season including an 8-2 mark in the Central State Eight Conference.
Warfield told the State Journal-Register that his dismissal was due to three SHS players that had been on his travel basketball team this spring, which violated Illinois High School Association rules and led to the IHSA placing the program on probation for one year and suspending Warfield for four games.
