Industry News: Cate Blanchett, The Boys in the Band, Keanu Reeves and More!

CATE BLANCHETT TALKS SOLIDARITY: Venice Film Festival jury president Cate Blanchett tells journos in Venice that she’s “very excited to be having a conversation with adults. I have been talking to pigs and chickens for the past six months.” Blanchett is chairing the main panel for the first major international festival in the coronavirus era. She says: “It seems a miracle actually. I applaud the organizers of the festival for their inventiveness and resilience and collaboration… We have to reopen, safely and tentatively… I am here in support and solidarity with filmmakers who had to complete films under very challenging and difficult circumstances,” adding, “challenge is in our DNA. If any industry will emerge more resiliently and creatively, it will be the creative arts and the film industry.”

THE BOYS IN THE BAND TRAILER DROPS: The Boys in the Band Broadway cast has reunited for the Netflix adaptation based on the play by Mart Crowley, who died earlier this year. Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Tuc Watkins, Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer, Michael Benjamin Washington and Robin de Jesús are reuniting. The film drops September 30th.

KEANU REEVES CALLS MATRIX 4 A ‘BEAUTIFUL STORY’: Keanu Reeves is not spilling the beans on Matrix 4, but he did tell Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show that director Lana Wachowski “created a beautiful story and a beautiful script.” He added, “And I am really grateful to be here and be a part of this story.” Warner Bros is pushing the release to April 1, 2022.

THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 2 PREMIERE DATE REVEALED: The Mandalorian will debut its second season on October 30th on Disney Plus. Season 2 will include Timothy Olyphant, Rosario Dawson and Temuera Morrison.
