A Springfield teenager found not guilty by reason of insanity of the fatal stabbing of his adoptive mother in 2024 has been ordered to spend the rest of his life in the custody of the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Jonathan Long was 16 when prosecutors said he stabbed 51-year-old Misty Long more than 100 times in their home on Shadowfax Drive in the Twin Lakes subdivision.
Judge John Madonia committed Long to DHS custody on Friday until 2084, the maximum time allowed.
Several family members said during the hearing that they have forgiven Long but others said that would take time, if ever.
