IDOT has announced that the 1.6-mile resurfacing project on Dirksen Parkway from Stevenson Drive to just south of South Grand Avenue began today.
Lane closures are expected but at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be open at all times.
Flaggers, signs and barrels will be used to direct traffic through the work zones. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through the area.
Work is expected to be completed by the beginning of August.
