Former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn says a tax on individuals who earn more than a million dollars per year will provide property tax relief.
Quinn told WMAY’s PM Springfield that he’s pushing state legislative leaders to place a binding referendum on this fall’s ballot.
Quinn said the 3-percent surcharge would raise about $4.5 billion each year.
A graduated income tax proposal was rejected by voters in 2020. Lawmakers have a deadline of May 3rd to place the issue on the November ballot.
