Unemployment increased in all 12 Illinois metro areas in the year ending in February according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The Springfield area’s jobless rate for February was 5.4 percent, near the statewide rate of 5.5 percent.
Springfield reported 105,100 jobs in February, about 2,600 lower than February 2025.
