The Springfield-area unemployment rate rose by more than one percentage point over the year in March according to figures released on Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The Springfield jobless rate in March was 5.2 percent, up from 4.1 percent in March 2025.
Total nonfarm payrolls in the area declined in March by about 33-hundred from a year earlier to 105,600.
