The Springfield City Council approved the elimination of a steeply discounted high-load electrical rate.
City Water Light & Power’s Rate-73 was originally intended to attract IT infrastructure to Springfield.
However, as Utility Chief Scott Rogers explained last week, CWLP requested the rate be eliminated due to the extremely large jump in power consumption by new data center proposals.
Several residents, including Don Hanrahan, spoke in favor of the rate’s elimination, but urged the council to take further action to prevent data centers from entering the city entirely
