The Morning Routine with Rocki & Lacey recently welcomed a special guest to the show—Jay Shanle, the newly appointed executive director of Downtown Springfield Inc. (DSI). During the conversation, Shanle shared insights into his new role, his connection to the Springfield community, and exciting new events for Downtown Springfield Inc., over the summer.
Downtown Springfield, Inc. is introducing a new summer event aimed at celebrating the city’s businesses and nightlife. Downtown Prom will take place Friday, July 17, inviting residents to dress up and visit participating restaurants and businesses throughout downtown Springfield.
According to Downtown Springfield, Inc., businesses will host prom-themed events featuring music and decorations, while attendees are encouraged to explore downtown and take advantage of designated photo opportunities. In the weeks leading up to the event, Downtown Springfield, Inc. plans to highlight participating salons, florists, boutiques and other businesses on social media, promoting special offers and services associated with preparing for prom.
Shanle said the event is designed to bring people together while supporting small businesses. Attendees are encouraged to dress up and spend the evening enjoying downtown. A complete list of participating businesses will be announced at a later date. Downtown Springfield, Inc. said additional information is available on its Facebook event page.
“This is an opportunity for community members to celebrate with their friends and family downtown, but it’s also a chance for us to show our downtown businesses how much we love and appreciate them,” said Shanle. ”Our small business owners are an invaluable asset to our community, and they see a surge of locals during events like our festivals, parades, and celebrations. Let’s shower our favorite establishments with that same love this summer and enjoy an excuse to dress up!”
As Shanle steps into his new role, there is a renewed sense of energy and optimism surrounding Downtown Springfield Inc. and its initiatives. His familiarity with the organization, combined with his passion for the community, positions him well to continue enhancing downtown Springfield and building on the success of signature events like the Old Capitol Farmers Market.
