Christian County Health Department reported West Nile virus was found in mosquitoes collected on Monday in Taylorville.
It’s the first positive sample of the virus in Christian County this year.
No human cases have been reported in Illinois this year.
Health officials recommend eliminating standing water around homes to reduce mosquito breeding areas, using insect repellant and maintaining screens on windows and doors.
