A federal appeals court Monday upheld the 10 guilty verdicts that sent former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan to prison.
Capitol News Illinois reports a 7 th Circuit appellate panel found no errors in the way the jury was instructed or the – quote – “mountain of evidence” the government used to prosecute Madigan.
The once-influential Democrat was convicted on bribery and other corruption charges early last year and has spent the past six months in a West Virginia federal prison.
The appeals court found prosecutors proved Madigan helped pass legislation benefitting electric utility Commonwealth Edison in exchange for his allies getting jobs and contracts with ComEd.
