The investigation into the disappearance of an Auburn woman nearly four decades ago has turned to the excavation of an abandoned well in that city.
The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office said 22-year-old Brenda Bottoms was last seen entering a car on 5th Street in Auburn in June 1987.
Detectives renewed their investigation last year, leading to the excavation of a backyard in Auburn on Wednesday.
The sheriff’s office did not comment further other than to ask anyone with information to call the office or Crime Stoppers.
