The final touches are being placed on the state fairgrounds with the Illinois State Fair less than a week away.
Illinois Director of Agriculture Jerry Costello III said many upgrades have been made throughout the fairgrounds.
Illinois State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark said a clear bag policy is being implemented at the grandstand to follow entertainment industry standards. No bags or purses larger than 14 by 8 inches, backpacks, or duffel bags are allowed into the Grandstand.
This year’s fair theme is “Miles of Smiles” to honor the 100th anniversary of Route 66.
The Mother Road was named the grand marshal of this year’s Illinois State Fair Twilight Parade, which steps from Lincoln Park to the fairgrounds on the fair’s opening night on Thursday. More information is at statefair.illinois.gov.
