On Thursday (November 13), Charli XCX shared details of her new album, Wuthering Heights, which is set for release on February 13 via Atlantic. The 12-track project, created primarily with producer Finn Keane, is inspired by director Emerald Fennell‘s adaptation of Emily Brontë’s beloved 1847 novel, and serves as the soundtrack for the movie, which fittingly opens in theaters on Valentine’s Day (February 14). “This collection of songs is an album, and sure, my name’s on the credits, but is it a Charli xcx album?,” she wrote on Substack. “I don’t even know. Nor do I really care to find out. All I know is that it’s a celebration of my freedom as an artist right now.” Charli also shared a new song from the album, “Chains of Love,” which also soundtracks the film’s official trailer. The album draws inspiration from The Velvet Underground’s aesthetic of creating music that is both “elegant and brutal,” and opens with the newly released collaboration, “House,” with VU co-founder John Cale.
